Resources for Students Living Internationally or Student Travel

  1. Contact your local General Practitioner or Primary Care Practitioner for help with referrals.

  2. International SOS program for Harvard Travelers

Harvard travelers can use International SOS or their provider’s insurance coverage, if applicable, to identify and connect with a local mental health professional. Under the International SOS program, travelers have access to up to five (5) emotional support counseling sessions.  To access this service, contact International SOS by phone at +1-617-998-0000, or start a chat or phone call through the Assistance App. You should download the Assistance App before departure.
  3. BCBS Global Core can help locate providers outside the U.S.
Call (800) 810-2583 or visit the Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Core website for assistance (enter HVA for the 3-letter Member ID prefix).

  4. Therapist Directories

  5. TimelyCare app: several features are available for registered students who are travelling internationally:

  • Health Coaching
  • Peer Community Forum
  • Talk Now
  • Self-Care Journeys and Wellness Content

Students who would like to use the available TimelyCare app resources need to use a US-based phone and download the TimelyCare app before going abroad. If that is not an option, students can use the web platform at timelycare.com/harvard with a US-based VPN. Learn more about TimelyCare.

Note: Students may need to pay upfront for services outside the U.S. and then submit payments to insurance for reimbursement. For more info about insurance coverage abroad, visit the HUSHP website or contact Member Services at (617) 495-2008 or mservices@huhs.harvard.edu.
